Black Earth gained its natural beauty 10,000 years ago. The movement of the glaciers left behind a rich soil, rocky bluffs, meandering valleys and spring-fed creeks.

Black Earth Creek was made a Priority Watershed not long after it was named one of the top 100 trout streams in North America.

The village is home to a variety of businesses including the Children's Museum. The museum was once home to the first cooperative in the U.S. The Patrons' Mercantile Co-Op opened April 9, 1894.

Black Earth's iconic shoe store, The Shoe Box, is one of the largest shoe stores in the U.S. Many finish their shopping trip with a stop at Rookies, the sports bar nearby.

Veteran’s Memorial Park brings the community together in the center of town. During the summer, Concerts in the Park features local bands and local fare for all to enjoy.

The park is also home to Field Days which celebrates Black Earth's farming tradition with many family-friendly events.

Black Earth, along with Cross Plains and Mazomanie, make up the region known as the Gateway to the Driftless.
